On-Campus Extensive Portuguese Courses for Foreigners at FAAP

How does the course work?

Based on a communicative approach, the language teaching of our courses is carried out in different cultural and social contexts, which provides a rich experience for students to practice Portuguese in a very pleasant environment: practical situations of everyday communication, pronunciation, vocabulary for specific purposes, such as school, work and leisure, developing the four language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Visit to museums, a Brazilian cooking class and some dance classes are part of the program.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday, from 1:30 to 5:00 pm.

If you have already studied some Portuguese, an interview with the language coordinator is required.

If you are an international student, expatriate, immigrant or simply passionate about Brazil and want to learn about our Language and Culture, study Portuguese at FAAP.
The passing grade is 7.0, which is calculated based on the student’s performance in class participation, assignments, fluency and written exam scores. Minimum attendance of 75% is also required.

Course description

On-Campus Extensive Portuguese Course Levels

Objectives: At the end of this course, it is expected that the student will have the ability to introduce himself, greet people, talk about himself and others, communicate on simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Even with some hesitation the student will make assumptions and raise hypotheses, tell the time, report simple facts in past time, talk about the weather, make quick comparisons, go shopping using units of measurement, talk about a future action, understand and give directions, communicate, even with a little hesitation, in public places, as in a restaurant, at a hotel and at the airport. It is also expected that he will be able to write and understand simple texts, with a predominance of colloquial language.

Objectives: At the end of this course, it is expected that the student will have more ability to make assumptions, raise hypotheses, make reports using the passive voice, talk about the various forms of sports and leisure, talk about health problems and medical specialties. To interpret and comment about literary works, chronicles and journalistic texts, with more confidence. It is also expected that he will be able to understand a great deal of programs and movies on TV, with a predominance of colloquial language.

  • Reading texts by famous authors from Brazilian literature.

Objectives: At the end of the course, the students will be able to understand longer presentations and most of the News and other informative programs on internet, radio and television. They will better understand and interpret a written text. They will use a better range of vocabular as a tool in textual production. Students will be able to write an expository text transmitting information or presenting reasons for and against a certain subject. They will discuss the labor Market and the profile of national and international companies considering cultural differences. They will also be able to speak with fluency and spontaneity to make normal interaction with native speakers possible. They will take an active part in a discussion in familiar contexts, presenting and defending their views.
